4 signs it’s time to reach out to a Speech Therapist

As a parent, you know your child best. So if you’re concerned about their communication development, here are 4 signs that it’s time to reach out to a Speech Therapist (or, Speech-Language Pathologist):

  • Instead of using words to communicate wants and needs, your child grunts and/or gestures like pointing at what they want or pulling you toward it
  • When your child is speaking, it is very difficult to understand them
  • You are noticing your child is getting frustrated when they aren’t understood
  • Your child is just not talking very much and/or they don’t seem to repeat many sounds, words or phrases

If any of these ring true, it’s time to consult with a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). At Exemplary Speech Services, we free consultations where you can share your concerns and ask questions. SLP’s should be knowledgeable about developmental milestones and be able to tell you whether your child is showing signs of a communication delay or advise you on how to work with them at home.

At Exemplary Speech, we have therapists who specialize in helping late talkers develop speech and language through direct, play-based therapy. In every session, we incorporate parents and caregivers to provide education and training on how to create a rich language environment at home and get kids communicating.

We have helped many families increase their child’s communication skills and decrease frustration. We provide a fun and calming environment to ensure your child is comfortable and enjoys coming in. If you are in West Michigan, reach out to our team to set up a free consultation!
